A new field of study is forming.
Be one of its founders.
Shift the Future is establishing a new field of study — one that asks how the formation of leaders shapes the institutions they build. Through certification, fellowship, academic partnerships, and research like the Designing Better Futures Initiative (DBFI), we are giving this field its first frameworks, its first cohorts, and its place in the world.
A once-in-a-generation convergence
There are moments when an idea arrives before the world is ready for it. And there are moments when the world begins asking the very questions you've been preparing to answer. We believe this is one of those moments.
Across higher education, philanthropy, theology, humanitarian leadership, and organizational development, a remarkable convergence is taking place:

Wake Forest University has announced a major expansion of its national Character Education Initiative, reflecting growing investment in character and leadership research.
Global Character Alliance · Harvard · Oxford
The Global Conversation
Organizations and research centers such as the Global Character Alliance, Harvard University's Human Flourishing Program, and the Oxford Character Project continue advancing the global conversation around character, leadership, virtue, and human flourishing.
These aren't isolated developments. Together, they point to something larger.
The conversation around character, leadership, institutional integrity, and human flourishing is accelerating. Institutions across the world are recognizing that developing better leaders is only part of the challenge. We must also learn how to design healthier organizations — ones whose structures, incentives, and cultures reinforce the very virtues they hope to cultivate.
That is the work Shift was created to pursue.
Why I created Shift — and why now.
After 15+ years building brands and scaling organizations, I saw a pattern: we platform and accelerate leaders faster than we form them. And when formation is shallow, success doesn't fix it — it exposes it.
I saw that pattern in boardrooms and churches, in startups and ministries — and it sent me back to study it. I earned my Master of Arts in Humanitarian & Disaster Leadership to understand how people and systems actually change. I studied disasters: how communities are blindsided by what they never saw coming, how they vow to learn and rebuild differently, and how the healthiest ones recover by changing the very culture that allowed the damage.
What struck me was how familiar it all looked. The patterns I studied in disaster response — the avoidable failures, the unheeded warnings, the institutions that fractured under pressure — looked remarkably like what I had already lived through in business, the church, and other sectors. The same gaps. The same costs. The same human toll.
I realized the research and lessons I was learning in transformational program development — how people genuinely change cultures, how they respond with integrity to crises they never anticipated, how they swear to rebuild and actually keep that promise — could be adapted to leadership formation itself. Not to keep responding to disasters after they break, but to design leaders and institutions in such a way that many of those disasters never arrive.
That is why Shift the Future was born — forming leaders to cultivate congruence between who they are, the ideas they steward, and the institutions they build.
This is the convergence of everything I've lived, learned, built, failed at, and wrestled with — aligning in a way only God could design.
