Who We Are

The architects of
systemic change

Where leaders are formed to build with integrity — before they scale, before they lead, before the stakes get higher. Shift is for those who want their formation to precede their platform.

Architects of Systemic Change
Why Shift Exists

Better futures begin long before the launch.

The systems shaping our world today did not appear by accident. They were designed. And the people who designed them left fingerprints — their assumptions, their values, their formation, their wounds — embedded in the institutions that now shape millions of lives.

At Shift, we believe better futures begin long before a policy is written, a company is launched, a church is planted, or a technology platform is deployed. They begin with the people who design them.

Drawing from humanitarian transformational development, ethical leadership, theology, and systems thinking — we develop frameworks, fellowships, research, and partnerships that help leaders steward power responsibly, design with people in mind, and build institutions capable of long-term renewal.

Our work is intentionally upstream — before organizations scale, cultures form, and systems become difficult to change.

We Design With People In Mind

Every leader designs systems that affect people.

Whether you're planting a church, launching a startup, building technology, leading a nonprofit, creating policy, investing capital, or developing healthcare programs — your decisions shape human lives.

We believe the best time to ask the hard questions is before the launch — not after. We work with leaders to develop the clarity, character, and design instincts needed to build institutions that truly serve.

Because when leaders are formed well, the institutions they create can strengthen communities, shape culture, and help design better futures.

Principles We Care About

Everything we do is grounded in a commitment to:

Human Dignity
Institutional Integrity
Cultural Renewal
Designing Better Futures
Designing With People In Mind
Stewarding Power Responsibly
Preventing Unintended Harm
Building What Serves People
Designing What Endures
From the Founder

Why I created Shift.

After 15+ years building brands and scaling organizations, I watched us platform and accelerate leaders faster than we form them. So I went back to school — earning my Master of Arts in Humanitarian & Disaster Leadership — to understand how people and systems actually change.

I studied disasters, and what I saw looked remarkably familiar. The avoidable failures and fractured institutions of crisis response looked like what I had already lived through in business, the church, and other sectors. I realized the lessons of transformational recovery — how people change culture and rebuild with integrity after what they never saw coming — could be adapted to leadership formation itself: not just responding to disasters, but designing leaders and institutions in a way that helps avoid them. That is why Shift the Future was born.

Foundational Assumptions

What we believe to be true.

These five assumptions shape everything we teach, design, and do. They are the reason Shift exists — and the reason this work matters.

01

Every institution was designed by someone.

Churches. Businesses. Governments. Universities. Nonprofits. Technology platforms. Healthcare systems. None appeared by accident. Someone made choices. Someone embedded values. Someone established what would be rewarded, tolerated, or ignored. Every institution reflects the assumptions, priorities, and formation of the people who designed it.

02

The designer always leaves fingerprints.

The systems we create reflect who we are — our assumptions, virtues, wounds, ambitions, and fears. Our understanding of power. Our understanding of human dignity. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, our formation becomes embedded in the institutions we create.

03

People often accidentally build.

Many leaders are taught how to execute. Few are taught how to design. As a result, people often begin building before they have fully considered why they are building, what assumptions they are embedding, who might be affected, or what happens after they leave.

04

Design and build are not the same.

Design is vision and architecture. Build is execution and implementation. You need both — but they are not the same. How something is designed often determines whether it ultimately serves or fails the people it was meant to help.

05

Discernment is as important as design.

Not everything that can be built should be built. Not every idea should become an institution. Wisdom is found not only in what we choose to build, but also in what we choose not to build.

The People Behind the Work

Commitments are in. Announcements coming at launch.

We believe the people around the table matter as much as what's on it. We are taking our time to get this right.

Registered 501(c)(3)

Transforming communities, one leader at a time.

We are building toward our first cohorts. Participants are already emerging from nonprofit leadership, business, finance, the arts, and beyond — leaders who want to be formed before they build.

Shift is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Donor support is what makes this work possible — and with your support, we will continue launching formation cohorts that strengthen the leaders who build the institutions that shape communities.
